AI is an abbreviation for "artificial intelligence." It is an easy way to refer to "players" controlled by the computer.
The Civilization II AI has been much studied by fans, notably by those who contribute to the Apolyton website.
The AI in Civilization V tends to be unreasonably aggressive (unless, of course, the player has Random Personalities checked).
The game comes with a standard AI and a selection of others, with an invitation to players to design better AIs.
The FreeCol AI is admitted by its developers to be rather stupid, and improvements are fairly high on the priorities list. Currently the AI nations are allowed to cheat a little, so as not to be hopelessly inferior.
AI is not present in (or the article has not been created for) the following games :
|Civilization III||AI (Civ3)|
|Civilization IV||AI (Civ4)|
|Civilization VI||AI (Civ6)|
|Civilization: Beyond Earth||AI (CivBE)|
|Civilization Revolution||AI (CivRev)|
|Civilization Revolution 2||AI (CivRev2)|
|Civilization: Call to Power||AI (CTP1)|
|Call to Power II||AI (CTP2)|
|Civilization IV: Colonization||AI (Civ4Col)|
|Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri||AI (SMAC)|
