Game InfoEdit

Luxury resource from Conquest of the New World Deluxe scenario. Added to main game in a patch released on 27 October 2014.[1]

  • Base yield:
    • 1 20xFood5 Food
    • 1 20xGold5 Gold
  • Modifiers:

Cocoa, like Bananas, is found only in jungles. You'll have to remove the jungle to improve it with a Plantation, but it's usually worth your while if you need extra 20xHappiness5 Happiness and 20xGold5 Gold. Be on the lookout for these if you're playing as the Aztecs or the Brazilians, whose starting bias makes it easier for them to procure Cocoa resources.

Historical InfoEdit

Cocoa beans, the product of the cacao tree native to South America, was an important commodity in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and figured prominently in tribal cultures. Introduced by the Spanish to Europe, by the mid-1700s it was immensely popular there as a beverage, cooking ingredient, and even as a medicine.
