Beavers, foxes, mink, otter, buffalo - the New World was literally crawling (and swimming and grazing) with precious furs of animals unlike any that could be found in Europe. And Europeans were wild for those pelts. This stiff demand created a valuable market for the Fur Trapper. Fur Trappers were often lone hunters, heading off into the wilderness for months at a time and returning with pelts of immense value, earning themselves a pretty penny and providing an ever-fashionable Europe with the furs it sought so desperately.
