Strategy[]
The Harbor is a Medieval-era building, vital for seafaring civilizations. It forms "water routes" (see rules) between cities, allowing the connection of cities on islands or other continents with your Capital. It also adds 1 Production per sea resource. Due to Carthage's unique ability, they start with a free Harbor in all their coastal cities even if the prerequisite technology has not yet been researched at that time.
In the Brave New World expansion, the Harbor has been reworked and now greatly benefits sea trade routes established from this city, and its Production bonus transferred to the Lighthouse.
Civilopedia entry[]
A harbor is a sheltered body of water that provides protection from the elements for boats and ships at anchor within. Where there are some "natural" harbors, most have required some degree of dredging, the construction of breakwaters and windbreaks, and the like. In addition, harbors also possess docks and jetties for loading and unloading cargo as well as warehouses to store the goods passing through.
