The Iron Mine is a building in Civilization Revolution.

Gameplay

Mountains provide five times the normal amount of production when worked by cities that have built Iron Mines. They are the best way to speed up city production. You cannot build an Iron Mine if there are no Mountains around your city.

Civilopedia Entry

A mine is a system of props, beams, walls and supports that allow miners to (more or less) safely extract valuable material from deep underground. The earliest mines were constructed of wood and those inside were at more or less constant risk of death by cave-in, fire, flood or asphyxiation. While still dangerous, modern mines are far safer than their predecessors. The South African gold mines are the deepest mines in the world, with shafts reaching depths of 3,777 meters (2.3 miles) beneath the surface.

Trivia

  • Canaries were often brought down into mines along with early miners. Because of their tiny body mass, canaries would succumb to carbon monoxide poisoning well before the larger miners, who, alerted to the unseen danger, could then escape safely.
  • The Letseng Diamond Mine in Lesotho has continually produced some of the largest diamonds ever discovered. The "Lesotho Promise" discovered in 2006, sold for $12 million.
