"This loss (of freedom) means the fading from human life of values infinitely precious to it. There only remain ironbound conditions of employment and trivial amusements for leisure."

Game Info

Requires Autocracy. Must be constructed in a coastal city.

  • +2 20xHappiness5 Happiness
  • +1 20xHappiness5 Happiness for every 2 Social Policies you have adopted.
  • 1 Free Social Policy.

StrategyEdit

Build the Prora as soon as possible before other players with the Autocracy ideology can build it. The 20xHappiness5 Happiness boost is very useful when you're adopting new policies, allowing you to cut down on the Unhappiness (Civ5) Unhappiness of your empire when expanding or when struggling against foreign influence, while the free Social Policy allows to you to advance faster in the Social Policy trees. The only drawback to the Prora is its lack of culture boosters, which leaves your civilization vulnerable to the foreign influence of the 20xTourism5 Tourism wave and the unfavorable public opinion. Rather than relying solely on the Prora's bonuses, it is recommended that you build many 20xCulture5 Culture- and 20xHappiness5 Happiness-boosting buildings in your cities, get a lot of Luxury Resources, and obtain many Great Works. If you take all of these steps in addition to building the Prora as quickly as possible after adopting Autocracy, your civilization should be ALMOST immune to the cultural influence of foreign civilizations.

Historical InfoEdit

Prora WonderArt

Prora wonder art

Built between 1936 and 1939, Prora was to be a massive beach resort on the Baltic island of Ruegen. The massive megalomaniac complex was intended to provide vacations for German workers. As originally planned, the Prora Resort would consist of eight blocks of ten housing units, capable of providing rooms for 20,000 vacationers. The complex, if completed, would also have included restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools, gymnasiums, ballrooms and other amenities, all served by a rail station and a quay for cruise ships. The outbreak of World War II halted construction; during the war the buildings were used to house refugees and later served as a military hospital. After the war, the complex was occupied by Soviet units for a period, and then stripped of all useable materials, down to the wiring and plumbing. Aside from a museum for East German history, most of the complex has fallen to decay.

TriviaEdit

Before the release of the Brave New World expansion, the Eiffel Tower had the Prora's ability to grant additional 20xHappiness5 Happiness based on the number of Social Policies adopted. With the appearance of 20xTourism5 Tourism, the Eiffel Tower's abilities were changed and the Prora inherited the Eiffel Tower's 20xHappiness5 Happiness-boosting ability (though it has a base 20xHappiness5 Happiness bonus of +2 rather than +5).
