Although scrap metals and other materials have been reused in manufacturing processes for some time, only recently has Recycling become a household concern. Increasing world populations and the flow of products off the Mass Production lines are threatening to choke our planet in refuse and pollution. In the Democracies of the West, the richest nations and the most wasteful, a movement is underway to reuse as much refuse as possible. When Recycled, old newspapers used again spare trees, plastic bottles save oil, and aluminum cans save electricity. Recycling reduces costs and pollution, thereby improving the quality of life.
