World wonder of the Ancient era in Civilization V
Introduced in Wonders of the Ancient World
- "He spoke, the son of Kronos, and nodded his head with the dark brows, and the immortally anointed hair of the great god swept from his divine head, and all Olympos was shaken."
- –The Iliad
- All units gain +15% combat strength when attacking cities.
The Statue of Zeus Wonder is a decent option for all players pursuing a domination victory. Its bonus helps you do what you need to do most: conquer enemy cities faster. Although its benefits are minimal early on in the game, they become more significant when you gain access to siege weapons and the more advanced and powerful units of the later eras.
Standing over 40 feet tall (12 m) in the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Greece, the Statue of Zeus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was known to have been constructed by the Greek sculptor Phidias c. 440 BC, and even with Zeus seated on a golden throne the enormous statue could barely be contained by the temple itself. The statue is thought to have been destroyed no later than 425 AD, when the temple of Zeus was burned. Whether the statue was still present at that time is the subject of much debate.
