Trading Posts increase the amount of trade produced from desert squares! You cannot build a Trading Post if there are no Desert regions around your city.

Trading posts are buildings where goods and services are traded. Trading posts are usually smaller and leess profitable than markets. They often appear at the edges of civilization, where farmers, trappers and natives trade crops, furs, animal skins and the like for tools, cloth, medicine and other products of civilization.

- Founded on the banks of the Niger River in the heart of the Sahara desert, Djenne, located in modern Mali, was a center of the African gold trade between the 13th and 17th centuries. So prosperous did the city become that in the 13th century AD, the Great Mosque of Djenne was built, a towering structure of hardened mud and wood that can still be seen in the city today.
